New Delhi, Oct 26: Legal process outsourcing ( LPO ) firms in India have unanimously rejected the concerns raised by experts over a recent US government circular prohibiting outsourcing of patent works from the country, saying that it would not affect their business.

In a recent notice in its Federal Register, the United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) has intimated that law firms, attorneys and companies should not outsource innovations to foreign soil for application drafting and other related jobs.

The USPTO further suggested that they should take requisite clearance from the Bureau of Industry and Security
(BIS) at the Department of Commerce for such purposes.

"Applicants and registered patent practitioners are reminded that the export of subject matter abroad pursuant to a license from the USPTO, such as foreign filing license, is limited to purposes related to the filing foreign patent applications," said the US government.
